Five Factors That Determine Crown Price
1. Stone Quality
Domestic crystals and imported Austrian crystals can differ in cost by 3-5x. However, most audiences cannot tell the difference on stage. The smart middle ground is high-quality domestic crystal, controlled cost, same visual impact.
2. Metal Grade
Not all zinc alloy is the same. Impurity levels, hardness, and ductility vary significantly between grades. Cheaper alloys are more prone to breakage and produce inferior plating results.
3. Plating Process
Quality plating requires multiple layers: copper base, nickel barrier, finish layer, protective topcoat. Budget manufacturers skip layers to save cost. Those crowns fade and oxidize within months. PAI Crown uses a 5-layer process with a protective topcoat rated for 3+ years.
4. Labor Hours
A fully covered crown takes hours to a full day of hand-setting, depending on complexity. Cutting labor time means rushing the setters, and the first thing sacrificed is stone alignment density.

Stock crowns are batch-produced from existing molds, efficient and lower cost. Custom crowns require new molds, design iterations, and approvals. The cost difference reflects the additional engineering and setup time.
